DEAF KFC

My friend went to Egypt and told me about the deaf KFC they have there. So i found this video about it. Its pretty cool, its surprising that we don't get deaf fast food restaurants here.

PROJECT 1

In this project I'm working with the sign language culture. I'm planning to create products which can be given out at events for the deaf. Or at schools. I've been playing around with the first design ideas for re-usable bags, or clothes.

These are just some drafts. This is the sign for i love you. however i think its only for American Sign Language.

100 COLLAGES

PART TWO

This is another colouring book i have bought to make my collages with, the outlines are different colours so it should make my collages more fun

Cutouts of the animals and the A6 book for them to go in

These are some examples of my first collages.

I quite like the look of them, I don't think anyone else will be doing anything like this. They have a sort of comical look to them.

SUNFLOWER SEEDS

AI WEIWEI

An exhibition at the Tate Modern which I visited last week. These sunflower seeds are actually made out of porcelain  and hand painted. It's a very overwhelming exhibition, with a 100 million seeds in the Turbine Hall. My first reaction was to wish to touch them, or walk on them barefoot, I can't help but think this was the artist's wish, for the viewer to interact with the work by really feeling it. However this is not allowed any more due to health and safety issues. Anyhow it's definitely still worth going to see this work.
I don't want to give away too much about the work because I think if you're interested in seeing, watching this video http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/unileverseries2010/room3.shtm will hopefully be as fascinating to you as it was for me.

100 COLLAGES

PART ONE

So we've been set an extension to the image workshop which is to create 100 A6 collages

My idea is to create weird creatures by using animals from children's colouring books and turn these collages into a new colouring book

Testing the combinations of animals.

IMAGE WORKSHOP

We started the workshop by doing quick sketches

Then moved on to drawing without looking at the paper

Without looking at the paper with my left hand.

We worked on using the image of a leaf to create different patterns. I really enjoyed doing this, it was surprising the diversity of patterns you can get from just one leaf. These were my patterns.

Another student's work which i really liked, it stood out from the others, it's different and doesn't resemble a leaf at all which attracted my attention.

COLLAGES

We were asked to use one of these words to create a quick collage

This was my attempt of creating a collage which explored humour, however while putting it together other words kept popping up in my head like composition and surrealism, which is what another student said it made them think of while talking about my collage. Later we found out that the task was actually a trick, where you weren't able to choose just one word because your image would always lead to other meanings.

This was a collage by another student which i really liked. it's funny and I like the simplicity of it.

This collage I did explored the use of white space, by leaving more white space the image instantly grabs your attention.

Another student's work which was pretty funny.

Another collage by me.

TYPO

'MAKING OF LANGUAGE'

This was a typo workshop where we explored type in detail. In this worksheet I worked with the letter 'x' by changing it's scale, inverting, layering, showing just the outline, deconstructing and recomposing.

FIONA BANNER

Harrier and Jaguar

An exhibition at the Tate Britain which i visited last week, where Fiona Banner has placed fighter planes in the Duveen Galleries.

A video where Banner explains how and why this work has come together.

In this photo I wanted to show her idea of making the audience become part of the work by having the reflective surfaces.
I think Fiona Banner's work is not the best or most exciting work I have seen in the Tate. however I think it's very powerful in it's grandness and beauty. I also feel that she has chosen the right positioning for her work, giving it nice shapes and views from different angles.

CAMBERWELL'S FDA SHOW

The exhibition was in Bar Story, Peckham

I really liked this work, im not sure what it was made out of but the picture inside the jar was in water and looked like a different picture when looking at it from different angles.

Some examples of the work seen there.

INK SPILLAGE

Foundation work, composed by spilling ink on a page then creating images with the lines.
